Summer Learning Journey, Week 1: Day 1 - Activity 2

Waka's

Kia Ora Sam,

Today I had a very fun and exciting opportunity to go on a Waka. I went with some family members, We went 92 miles away from home. I loved it. When we were on the waka, we saw rocks all over the place. I am very glad that we didn't crash into any of them. I enjoyed making conversations with my family.

  1. Hi Cassandra,

I like that you have talked about how you loved the journey to a new place in the Waka and also how you passed the time having conversations with your family. Maybe next time you could add a little more detail about the sights you saw and how long it took to get to your destination, surely Sam would want to know when to expect you.

I know if I was on a Waka journeying to a new place I’d definitely spend time talking to my family for comfort as well as other things. What else do you think you’d have done to pass the time?

Thank you so much for sharing, I’m looking forward to reading more of your blog posts this summer!

    Toe feiloa’i fo’i,

    Cia.

  2. Hey Cassandra,

This is a great letter you have created for your friend Sam. I like how you have thought about how far you have traveled away from home. As you are travelling to New Zealand, Sam might like to know what New Zealand looks like. Is it any different than your home village in the Polynesian Islands?

If I was to travel across international waters to a new country I would expect the weather to be very rough in some places. I could imagine being so frightened of the rough waters and whether we would survive the journey. What kind of weather might you experience when traveling by waka to New Zealand?

I look forward to reading your response. Happy blogging!
    Megan :)

Wow! I like your letter Cassandra, it is interesting. Maybe next time you could add a picture to make it more interesting.

This reminds of when i watched survivor and they read their letters from there a family because they were on a island for ages. Have you watched survivor? Good luck on your activity's over the summer/ school holidays.

    Looking forward to more posts.
